My Reflections ...
- Evolution of civilisation and the need for people to make sense of the world around them now brings us into the age of information and digital access. Our natural inclination to interact and learn on a personal level has been overcome by the exponential growth of digital tools and digital access. With this brings opportunities and challenges and as a result, this reading focuses on the challenges for future education and why these are challenges.
WHY change.
- New Competencies for a complex world
- Changing Student Characteristics
- Youth disengagement and early school leaving
- Changing perceptions about the value of formal education
- Skills shortages
- Labour market trends
- Changing models of learning and teaching
- Availability of new media and other tools for learning
- Mandates for assessment and accountability
- Availability of anytime/anywhere learning
- Exponential growth of information
- Transition of learner from consumer to producer
Well Being.
As societies become more knowledge based, I believe our focus needs to be driven from a perspective of well-being that needs to aligned with our knowledge, skills, attitudes and actions, outlined as:

Moving from Told to Involved.
Our future education focus should align alongside the ability to sift and sort the vast amount of information, discern and decide what is relevant, as a key to supporting learners going forward.
Tell me, I’ll forget
Show me, I’ll remember
Involve me, I’ll understand
‘Chinese proverb’
This also aligns with what the experts say, ‘the integrated and humanistic vision of learning outlined in the Faure and Delors Reports remains relevant and that twenty- first century education must contribute to greater humanity in a rapidly changing world (UNESCO, 2015).’
"Our job is not to prepare our students for something
Our job is to help our students prepare for anything" - John Spencer.
New challenges will always be emerging and our future leaders will need to be prepared for anything. The increasing expectation of society for schools to address the widening student gap of being able to self manage, relate to others, communicate clearly, develop social etiquette, share and listen openly is needing reviewing and refining.
The forms of assessment and accountability we consider will need to have their focused changed from knowledge content to competency progression.

- The future of Education needs to be actively shaped with an aim not just to confront new challenges, but also to reimagine and create a world for all.
